POP Chandakas
– CANDIA
The uniqueness of POP Chandakas–Candia wines lies in the distinct characteristics of the region, combined with the cultivated grape varieties and the applied viticultural techniques. The regions climate, terrain, and soil composition (extensive slopes) play a vital role in shaping an inland Mediterranean microclimate, characterized by mild winters and cool summers. These climatic conditions contribute to the production of quality wines with a distinctive aromatic profile and refreshing acidity.
For POP Chandakas–Candia wines, the grapevine training systems used are either goblet-shaped (bush vines) or linear forms. The grapes come from vineyards that are over four (4) years old. The soil and climatic characteristics of the designated zone are ideal for cultivating the grape varieties used to produce these high- quality wines.
Chandakas — modern-day Heraklion — became the most important center of political, social, intellectual, military, and commercial life on the island during Venetian rule. It featured administrative institutions modeled after those of Venice and was protected by Venetian-style
fortifications.

Geographical environment and origin
At the same time, the cool northern winds—thanks to the absence of mountains to the north—help maintain satisfactory summer temperatures. This results in reduced heat stress on the vines and contributes to a later ripening of the wine grapes.
